Junior Lifeguard Taplin

Open to children (ages 9 through 17), the mission of the Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguard Program is to educate youth in our community in ocean and beach safety, physical conditioning, basic first-aid, and environmental awareness, while developing the next generation of future lifeguards and leaders.

 

The Junior Lifeguard Taplin is held on Saturday night of the International Surf Festival prior to the Judge Irvin Taplin 16-Lifeguard Medley Relay. The events consist of the Girls Junior Lifeguard Taplin Relay,  and the Open "A" Junior Lifeguard Taplin Relay.

The Girls Junior Lifeguard Taplin Relay team consists of 3 competitors (1 swimmer, 1 board paddler, and 1 runner) in the following sequence: Swim, Run, Board Paddle and Run.  The Open "A" Junior Lifeguard Taplin Relay consists of 6 competitors (2 swimmers, 2 board paddlers, and 2 runners) in the following sequence: Swim, Run, Board Paddle, Run, Swim, Run, Board Paddle, Run.
