Where does the event start?

 

The competition is held on the north side of the Manhattan Beach Pier.

 

When does the event start?

 

Check-in is at 6:15 a.m. and the first heat is at 6:45 a.m.

 

Are there fees for the event?

 

The fees are $45 (Adults) / $20 (under 18).

 

How is the event conducted?

 

There is a limit of 108 male contestants (6-age groups) and 36 female contestants (2-age groups).  Each division will have approximately 3 preliminary heats of approximately 6 contestants.  The top 2 finishers in each preliminary heat will advance to a championship heat in that division.

 

How is the event judged?

 

Judging is based on wave selection, size of wave, quality of takeoff, position in wave, maneuvers, length of ride on open face, and exit from wave.

What prizes do the winners receive?

​​The top six finishers in the eight age groups each receive medals and prizes. (Total = 48 medals and 48 prizes.)
