12 minute heats—may be changed on the day of contest depending upon conditions.
6 contestants per heat.4 best waves will be scored. Ties will be broken by 5th, 6th, or 7th waves if necessary.
1 0 wave maximum. Judges will not score after your tenth wave.
Points awarded on a 1-20 basis per wave
Top 2 riders per preliminary heat advance to Finals.
SCORING CRITERIA
Length of ride on the shoulder – no soup sliding or belly riding.
Wave selection--size and shape.
Performance—underwater take offs, tube rides, spinners, backsliders, aggressiveness, tricks, etc. You will not gain points for any maneuvers that make you lose the wave.
Lose Points—shoulder-hopping/interference—if any judge calls a shoulder-lopping or interference penalty, all judges will deduct 5 points per infraction from their total points for that heat for the offending bodysurfer.
AGE GROUPS
There will be six age groups for the men and boys, and two age groups for women. We will establish the age breakdown for the divisions prior to the contest day based on the ages and number of entries submitted.
STARTING TIMES AND ORDER OF COMPETITION
The first heat will be in the water at 7:30 a.m. If you are not at the beach when your heat is called you will be disqualified. We will have preliminaries first with oldest divisions competing first. Championship heats for all age groups will be held after all preliminary heats are completed.
